Five security trends for virtualization in 2017

Virtual components and environments are a particular challenge when people talk about enterprise cybersecurity. Here are the top five security trends industry experts believe will be in the virtualization space in 2017:

1. Virtualization security focuses on integration

Considering security solutions for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and virtualized servers, experts predict that enterprises will pay more attention to smooth integration between various systems rather than overhauling product features.

Security solutions can be integrated into the virtualized infrastructure to enable early detection of cyber attacks and components that pass malicious activity information to the enterprise environment, enabling rapid decision-making to isolate and analyze threats, which is business wise choose.

2. Enterprises are investing more in hybrid cloud protection

A new trend that will become even more important over the next five years is the transition from private to hybrid cloud. By 2020, the growth of public cloud infrastructure, and the resulting cost of infrastructure and security solutions, could increase by a factor of 2.5 to 3 compared to what industry analysts recently indicated. Major global cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google will continue to lead the industry and strengthen their market positions, which are now well ahead of their competitors.

3. More attacks and damage

In the future, the number of attacks on enterprises will continue to increase. Whether companies use virtualization or not (more than 75% of companies currently have it), the question is whether they can understand all the processes in the infrastructure related to information security.

Due to the complexity of a large enterprise infrastructure and the complex relationships between different systems within it, attack detection time will increase with damage.

4. Cyber extortion continues to affect virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI)

Cyber extortion is on the rise, and it is worth mentioning that encrypted malware threats such as Crypto-locker and Crypto-malware will become an intractable trouble for VDI. Ransomware can attack a virtual desktop as well as a physical workstation, but with VDI these risks are significantly higher.

5. Mobility challenges call for unified security

The larger the enterprise, the more controls need to be implemented to ensure the security of user interactions with different business systems. Given the increasing mobility of users and the need to seamlessly access business services and applications from anywhere, many companies will find themselves deploying enterprise mobility management software for thousands of endpoints. This will require robust, resource-efficient security solutions that are tightly integrated with these enterprise mobility systems.
